On Saturday, November 14, Chef Karla Ortiz is coming to Little Logan's Farm in Gardiner, NY, to cook A Harvest Farewell: five courses built around the last crops we pick this year.
Meet Chef Karla Ortiz
Karla has been cooking for more than 20 years. She trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Orlando and graduated summa cum laude. At Walt Disney World she became the first woman to work as Expediter in her area at EPCOT, and she cooked at several editions of Epcot's international food festival.
In 2013 she cooked at The Rusty Spoon in Orlando. That's where she put down roots in farm-to-table cooking: local growers, the season, and knowing where every ingredient comes from.
Today she owns and runs Bo.ka.do Scratch Kitchen inside the Plaza del Mercado, the public market in Mayagüez. She buys straight from the farmers there and cooks everything from scratch.
People have noticed. Forbes named her one of four women changing how people think about restaurant food. Mayagüez named her Placera del Año in 2021. In 2024 she was picked as a Top 5 chef at the Porta del Sol Gastronomic Festival. She has also been featured by PBS American Portrait, Sabrosia and Platea. Since 2022 she has taught culinary arts and nutrition at Universidad Ana G. Méndez.
The Harvest Menu: Five Courses From Our Fields
Karla's plates are colorful and generous, and she takes ideas from kitchens all over the world. Each one starts with what's fresh that week.
That's why we wanted her for this dinner. Our fields give their last harvest of the year in November. We pick it, and Karla builds her menu around it. The menu is still being written around whatever the fields give us.
One dish we're excited about is her Bacalao Cumbiana made from mushrooms. It's rich and comforting, and it will make you look twice.
Every course is 100% plant-based and homemade. You won't miss a thing.
